The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

    This was our first time going to The Walnut Room, we were excited to take my little girl for her birthday, we were checked in, not busy or many people there. The Hostess never smiles or anyone in the restaurant, she sits us in the middle of the room near the busser area/garbage can view instead of by one of the window view, that was strange. I thought maybe you had to be a party of 4 to sit at the window table but as I saw people coming in just pairs , she proceeded all the Caucasian people to the window view and the 2 African American had middle of restaurant with no view. I wasn’t impressed with the restaurant. The walls had beautiful wood paneling, but the tables were not impressive at all, a plain white cloth and a salt /pepper shaker in the center(no flower /candle , just plain. Everything was mix matched and not coordinating. White cloth, black utensils napkin, chairs didn’t match the walls .the carpet was just colorful ..basically no wow factor, very disappointed. I will never visit this place again . This was Sunday Brunch ..it was not worth $almost $60 for dried fruit from yesterday strawberries and blue berries . With my French toast plate and my daughter chicken and waffles.. so 1-10.. I’ll give it a 2. Maybe they put effort in on the holiday, but not today

    We love the Walnut Room! It is such a comfortable, quiet atmosphere. Annette is one of our favorite waitresses in Chicago! Food is always delicious!

    The food was very good. It was a little dark in the restaurant and our server could have been a bit more attentive. I would definitely visit again.

    This is a classic location in Downtown Chicago. The wonderful wood, and architecture made it seem so special. It is a very low noise, calm environment with consisten food quality and service.

    The staff at the Wallnut Room were friendly, polite and helpful. Food was good and reasonable priced. Service was good and did not have to wait long for the food. Great experience. Can’t wait to do it again.
