The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

    I was so excited to visit the stunning Walnut Room for the first time and see the epic Christmas tree.. The ambiance did not disappoint as it is a beautiful place, however we were seated as far away from the tree as possible and did not have a view of it at all. The service was also severely lacking. We had no silverware or napkins and had to wait 10 minutes to get a fork while I sat drooling over my salad. Our server seemed overwhelmed and overworked. My salmon was excellent but the chicken pot pie did not live up to the hype.

    It is a lovely place to enjoy a nice comfort holiday meal. The pot pie was outstanding, the cocktails were delicious. We absolutely loved the decoration. Unfortunately, the waitress’ service was not aligned with how beautiful this venue is. It was not as full as I expected it. We will return next year.

    Fabulous walnut room Experience!! Our servicer Latonya was A++++ smiling, helpful, timely , attentive She made the experience special. I love the Walnut Room More every time I go! Never ever ever change it!

    You would think that since the menu never changes, they could perfect what’s on it. Alas, the food is mediocre at best. Do NOT order the lobster bisque! Go for the beautiful tree, but don’t expect to be impressed by the menu.

    The tree is beautiful!! The food was good. We ate the Asiago chicken, chicken salad, kids pot pie (loved!), and kids Mac and cheese. However, you need to allow 2 hours to eat here, which is hard for kids. The service was beyond slow. It took 30 minutes for the waitress to come take our drink order. She disappeared for long periods of time. The kids meal said it came with a cookie and the melted snowman with chocolate chips. The kids did not receive those items, but we didn’t bother asking since we didn’t want to add on time to an already unnecessarily long meal. The kids even said don’t ask or we will be here until breakfast tomorrow. ☹️ We were waiting with jackets on at the end. We had to ask another waitress to give our waitress our payment since our waitress dropped the check and disappeared for 15 minutes. The positive was that the kids were able to see another fairy, who was wonderful with them. I believe others looked to have better service so hopefully this experience is not common.

    It’s a Chicago tradition - so they know people will line up no matter what. Service is awful - waitstaff was kind but too overwhelmed to be of any service. Food offerings are not terrible but portions are small, quality poor, and customizations not possible. I took my daughter because she was desperate to go and that’s how they stay in business.

    Prices were so reasonable! Service was very good. Food was tasty. The carrot cake! Gotta have that! Beautiful Christmas tree. Very nice experience!
