The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

    We love eating around the tree at the Walnut Room. This is one of our favorite traditions. The ambience is just so AMAZING!❤️🎄🤩

    This has been a holiday tradition for our family for almost ten years. Special shout-out to our waitress Liz, who we have had a few times. Always goes above & beyond, best smile and fantastic service. Great value for such an historic and delightful experience. Walnut Room was amazing as always - Macy’s seems VERY run down and not clean at all. Hope they can get figured out. The Walnut Room at Christmas is a treasure.

    Server was superb. We were early for our reservation but staff was able to seat us right away. Thank you Walnut Room for your decades of Christmas joy!!! Give your staff a huge bonus!!!!!!!

    The food is excellent, but the service was horrible. Our waitress was whispering and my mom couldn’t hear her. We were sat literally in the corner near the windows - super drafty, the bathroom and kitchen were close, and you couldn’t see the tree. I ordered black tea and hot earl gray. Fine. Took 10 min to get different tea bag. Different server brought the food and I said we need silverware. We had nothing to eat with and no napkins. He seemed annoyed and walked away. I set my watch - 6 min later I found another busser and told him he brought the cutlery to our table. One set was covered in long female hair. Our original server didn’t return until we were ready for the check. It felt criminal to leave a tip - but I did. But my real tip is - go back to being a restaurant and not a tourist destination please.

    I’ve been dining at the Walnut Room during the Christmas season for 25 years. I have never been disappointed with the service, food, holiday decor etc. This was just as wonderful the waitress was very informative and treated us like family. I really enjoy the tradition of eating at the Walnut Room and hope to see you guys again next year. Thanks so much!
