The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

Overall, it was nice to see the tree. However, I feel like this experience was way overhyped. I had a reservation for 6pm and arrived to the line at 5:45pm. We didn't sit until almost 6:25pm. With two small kids, this was a bit of a nightmare. The service wasn't bad but wasn't exactly good either. The food was decent, but not memorable. I had no idea about the "fairies" and was kind of caught off guard by them, also by the fact that one of fairies stepped behind our kids while we tried to take a picture of the tree in background (completely blocking the tree). She then proceeded to smile at us and tried to join our picture, and then continued to talk to some other kids at the table while blocking the tree. It was awkward and rude. As a Chicagoan, I'm glad I gave this a try but this is a one and done experience for me and my family. I don't understand the hype.

Beautiful dinner under the tree! The service was a little slow and the food mediocre, but you can’t beat the ambiance.

Our server, Lex, was absolutely delightful. He was so very attentive friendly and patient with my rambunctious grand kiddos. He explained everything carefully and checked back in on us regularly. He's a hidden gem. The hostess was great sitting us quickly where we wanted. And best of all the 3 fairy princesses sprinkled Gary dust and granted wishes. Great service all around

it was all a very confusing process. the girl couldn’t seem to figure out where we were seated. we wended up allll the way in the back next to two space heaters with a toddler… after about 15 minutes i had to go walk around to find someone just to get water. then once we were able to put apps in i had to basically ask 3 people for plates for said apps. the waiter was very nice- however in a joking manner told my son he wouldn’t write down his order unless he told him… my son is non verbal and 3 yrs old…. and when we were leaving made a joke about the wish fairy’s sparkle dust being stripper dust…. idk. i probably wouldn’t waste my time coming back.

It was a great experience. We seated quickly with our reservation and had great service. The food was good and the Christmas ambience in the restaurant was great. Santa and Mrs. Claus was a great touch! My daughter loved the princesses visiting the tables. Second time we’ve gone this year.
