The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.

Our yearly Christmas at the Walnut Room did not disappoint. Tried the breakfast buffet and it was delicious. Always a festive good time.

I’m so sad to write this review because this is our yearly holiday tradition that we look forward to every year, and last night was the first time we didn’t have a an exceptional experience. The service was sub par and our wait staff looked extremely tired and overwhelmed, so we lowered our expectations however, we ordered our drinks and they didn’t come until after we had already finished our food. I added a grilled chicken to my dish and it was so overcooked that the ends and edges couldn’t even be cut off it was extremely dry. The middle was fine and our wait staff was nowhere to be found so I did not say anything. We were also celebrating my mother in laws birthday and again, staff was nowhere to be found- they kept ignoring our table. We got no water refills, no drinks until after our food was done. They came back and asked what we ordered so they could give us our check. Overall, it was such a let down.

Love to go here during the holidays. Love the walnut room mugs at the end of dinner. The pot pie is amazing. Great family tradition.

We went during the Christmas holiday and they had Elsa going around greeting the kids. The food was delicious and came out very quickly. Service was a bit slow but servers did have a lot of ground to cover. Overall, would visit again when not in a time crunch.

Lex was an amazing waiter. He did an amazing job staying on top of things and keeping drinks and food in time. Hands down the best service experience we’ve had at the walnut room in over a decade of going there.

Chuck our server was great. Been coming to walnut room for over fifty years. One of the best experiences we have ever had.

The Walnut Room in Chicago is truly a gem, offering not just a delightful dining experience but also a slice of history. What truly made our visit memorable was our server Daniel. His knowledge of the menu was impressive and his recommendations were spot on. He was friendly and genuinely interested in our family having a great time. The food was outstanding and very fresh. Don’t skip this on your list of must do’s of holiday festivities!

Five stars all around. My waitress Genevieve was excellent! I ordered the Walnut Room Old Fashioned and the Chicken Pot Pie. Everything was great and I thought it was an excellent value for the price. I was seated at a table with a great view of the tree. I am spending this Christmas alone in the city and I’ve always wanted to visit the Walnut Room. This dinner was everything I wanted it to be!

Fantastic Christmas meal at this iconic gem. We had a table right next to the tree, fabulous service. It was our first visit, it won't be our last
