The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

This was me and my daughter’s first time dining at the Walnut Room. The giant Christmas tree is the first thing you see when you walk into the restaurant, it was stunning. Our server was amazing, he kept an eye or our table, I can say my water glass was never empty. I had the chicken pot pie and my daughter had the Walnut Room burger. Everything tasted very good. Our server Lex also made some dessert recommendations and it didn’t disappoint.

We really enjoyed our experience at The Walnut Room. The food was delicious but for us what really made for a most enjoyable experience was our server. He was very attentive, made some excellent suggestions and made us feel valued as a customer.

What a wonderful experience at the Walnut Room to celebrate the Christmas Holiday! The tree was just beautiful! The fairies greeted all tables, even those without children and our server, Charles P, took excellent care of us! We will be back!

Our server Lex was the best!! He was very pleasant, attentive, hospitable. The ambiance beautiful and lovley! I had the best short ribs!

Hosts could be retrained as check-in was confusing. Patrons who had a reservation were told to Que, however, others dining walked right up to host stand. Chilly reception as we were overlooked the first few minutes. Once our host was able to seat us, they practically ran to the table without looking back as my party and I tried to navigate those taking photos with the beautiful Christmas tree. However, our waiter, food runners, and bussers made up for it with excellent and attentive service. Food was as you would expect and ambiance was relaxed. Would recommend!

Wonderful holiday experience. Amazing staff, delicious food, and warm charming ambiance. Will definitely boom next year.

We don’t go for the food. It’s all about the tradition and the tree! Our server Lex was so attentive and friendly. This was the first year in twenty we did not sit right under the tree. We have been very lucky, He made the seating better because he was so nice!
