Reminiscent of a Paris brasserie it is where old world charm meets the new. Warm and welcoming to New Haven's cafe society, it is located across from Yale University old campus. The restaurant offers menu and ambiance in a casual elegant style. Always using the best ingredients of the moment, Union League Café's food combines French classical traditions with a more contemporary approach to flavors, textures and native ingredients. Local and organic fish, meats, cheeses, produce and rare specialty products from around the world help our chefs create our award-winning cuisine.

Service was wonderful as usual. Quality of the food was excellent. Always a pleasure to dine here. The staff was helpful and exemplary. Menu was diverse although more limited than in the past. Good solid food with interesting flavors. Would definitely return again.

This place never fails to impress. We brought another couple, that never have experienced the Union League Cafe and they were thoroughly impressed. From the food to the ambiance to the service; another impeccable evening. Thank you!

Overall a terrible and wildly disappointing experience. Granted, we were there on Valentine's Day, but still, the level of service we received was unacceptable, especially given the price. After a 15 minute wait after our reservation time, we were seated at a table we were unhappy with (bad location, bad lighting, not in the main dining room). We asked to switch, and despite offering to switch to a table in either the main dining room or upstairs, a manager—who did not have a friendly attitude during the conversation—said it was impossible to move. The food was not nearly worth the prices. The steak was under-seasoned and bland, and my appetizer and dessert were forgettable. The worst part of the experience was the wait. With a 7:30 reservation, we did not get our check until 10:15. We ordered only one drink each at the beginning of the meal and placed our full order for the prix fixe menu as soon as we sat down. More than 45 minutes passed between our entrees being cleared and the desserts coming out. I had to ask several waiters multiple times to check on the progress, and it was the same story for the check. In what I guess what was a fitting end to the experience, they couldn't find our coats at the coat check because of the "craziness" of the night. We had to go back to grab them ourselves. Again, I understand it's a busy night, but they can't expect to charge what they charge and provide this kind of experience. I was surprised as well that no one came over affirmatively to offer an apology. None of this was recognized until I brought it up repeatedly, with multiple people. Start to finish, we had an awful experience—a $250 dinner that would not have been worth it at half the price.

Valentines Day lunch at Union League Cafe. It felt like a special occasion all the way through, comfortable elegance, refined dining, but in an atmosphere that was relaxed. I'm always impressed by ULC!

We were here for a Saturday lunch in February. The dining room is gorgeous, perfect for anything from romance to friends catching up. The menu leans French (cassoulet, foie gras, tuna nicoise, steak frites) but there are salads, soups and entrees like salmon and there was a burger on the lunch menu. Everything was delicious, presented beautifully, good drinks and wine. We expected the prices to be higher given that everything has gone up, but prices seem really fair here, especially given the quality of the food and the waitstaff and those white tablecloths.
