Overlooking the confluence of Spray and Bow Rivers, The Waldhaus. our "House in the Forest" is a retreat for those seeking solace from Banff's bustle. What began as the Clubhouse for the renowned Stanley Thompson Golf Course has transformed into a sanctuary of Mountain gastronomy. In the dining room above, rich timber and a majestic hearth narrate the epic tales of bygone explorations. Meanwhile, the Bierhalle below is where history and merriment collide, offering a spirited space for companionship, games, and the shared joy of storied adventures.

Please note:
- The Waldhaus is designated as a historical building and such has stairs to access all areas.
- The Bierhalle and Billardhalle only take limited reservations, otherwise operating on a first-come, first-served basis
- Regrettably the Waldhaus does not take reservations for its patio due to the unpredictability of mountain weather however, we will do our best to accommodate patio requests on a per case basis.

Enter through the Hotel's main doors proceeding down the hall past the Fairmont Spa and out the doors to your right. Continue down the pathway to the stairs on your left which will take you down to the Waldhaus.Bus Fare is $2.00 per person.

    Once they finally decided we were there and who our server was to be all was better. We had a 5pm reservation and all was fine for our anniversary reservation and seating but the server taking care of the other 4 tables in our area totally ignored us for 30 minutes until I asked her is she was our server and she said she was not sure and would go find out. At this point someone else came to see us and said there was a mix up. Nothing else was done and I guess for our $200 dinner we just had to accept there terrible service mix up. Not at all acceptable. Too bad that this is what Fairmont has now become and no one took any responsibility. I guess we know what we now need to do on our future visits. So we unfortunate as we have really had some enjoyable times over the years at the Waldhaus Restaurant

    We had an excellent experience. If I could, I would give the service 6 stars... Our waiter Jack was amazing, he interacted with our daughters (8yo and 9yo) perfectly, and even surprised our 8yo with a mini chocolate fondue for dessert as she wanted to try it, but we weren't hungry enough to justify ordering the shareable one. The food was excellent, the building and ambience were really cool. We will definitely return next time we're in Banff.

    What a remarkable German experience, the Bratwurst was heavenly not to mention the array of beers. I give this place 5 stars!!

    Beautiful ambiance but menu selection and food was more fast food than should have matched the surroundings. Ordered the classic fondue of which the cheese was good but totally ruined by what only can be described as wonder white bread served with it. For goodness sake there are wonderful bakeries in Banff use their bread! The rest of the menu was burger, fish and chips, you get the picture. This wonderful dining room deserves better menu!

    Good but not as good as I remember. Can't beat the location and ambiance but at this point, there are many better German restaurants in the Bow Valley.
