Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in the jazz house. Start the evening in the cocktail lounge before dinner or have a nightcap after taking in a show in the jazz house.

My wife (of 40 years) and I have been patrons of Yoshi’s since they were on College Ave in Oakland during the early 1980s. We’ve patronized the JLS location, as well as the Fillmore District location (when it was live). We love Yoshi’s. Always showcasing their vibe with family and friends from afar. This most recent visit for dinner was less than expected. In short, the special Halibut entree should have been requested as medium prepared in lieu of well done, as requested. The result was a “mushy” dish. Certain seafoods are better suited prepared less than well done. The average diner my not be are of a particular seafood’s “sweet spot’ of ideal preparation. This is when the server makes recommendations based on advise from the Chef’s team. In short, Yoshi’s is an Oakland institution. We’ll always be proud of the establishment, albeit not perfect, but a good experience of life.

I've been to Yoshi's many times, but this was my first time dining in the restaurant. The service was great. Our server, Robin, was outstanding. The food was great as well. I had the Kuro Ninniku Angus Ribeye, and my wife had the Cedar Plank Grilled Salmon. We also enjoyed the Snow Monkey Sushi Rolls. It was a great experience overall!

We were disappointed with our group dinner on Valentine’s Day. The food was ok (albeit excessively priced) and the service was rushed — our entrees came as we were halfway through our sushi — with zero effort to make an adjustment. Also, the 22% tip on top a $150 prefix menu was egregious. We love coming to shows at Yoshi’s, but the dinner was quite a letdown.

When originally booking the reservation a Yoshi's personnel asked if we wanted the "fixed menu" and I said no. When we got there we were informed it is only fixed menu. With set menu, gratuity and tax it was $200 each and it is far from a $200 each dinner. We enjoyed Stanley Clarke concert, but not the dinner. Tip: Go early and eat at the bar and put in to get a good seat.

Completely disappointed with the Valentines day menu, especially the price. A piece of shrimp, a salad, some standard sashimi, and a mediocre entree followed by mediocre dessert for $500 for two people??? You can do better Yoshi or bring that price down to $100 a person…

I have gone to Yoshi’s for decades and this was the worst experience I have ever had. VALENTINE’S PREFIX DINNER WAS A TOTAL RIP OFF!! We had a “5” course meal. We got our salad before the appetizer and had to tell our waiter that we never got the appetizer before it was served. The sushi course was good - nothing special! And then we had to wait a LONG time for our entree because the kitchen was backed up. And for this we were charged (no choice) a 22% service fee. This not very special meal with poor service cost $442 for 2 people., including a small carafe of sake- NEVER AGAIN!

It was a horrible experience. We went to celebrate a birthday and it wasn’t enjoyable. I didn’t watch the show I just went to eat, the food wasn’t good, the sashimi pieces were so tick that I have to ask them to cut a bit more tin. The food came all fast at the same time and 8:30 pm the server already came saying the kitchen was closing. While we were still eating she already brought the desert it was so unexpected and rushed. $300 meal for that I won’t go back, ever.

Quickly seated, great food, and were filled to the gills! We saw Alex Bugnon perform afterwards who put on a great show! This was about our 8th time at Yoshi’s! We’ll be back soon!
